Lincoln, NE – The Lincoln Children’s Museum is excited to announce the addition of weekly Sensory-Friendly Hours to its 2025 calendar, beginning this month. Starting Wednesday, January 8, 2025, the Museum will offer a calm and welcoming environment every Wednesday and Thursday from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM, specifically designed for children and families with sensory sensitivities.
During Sensory-Friendly Hours, the Museum will adjust its environment to minimize sensory overload. Loud sounds will be turned off, and bright lights will be dimmed or turned off, creating a soothing space for visitors who may be sensitive to overstimulation. These new hours provide an inclusive opportunity for families to enjoy the museum’s hands-on exhibits and interactive displays in a quieter, more comfortable setting.
“We are thrilled to offer Sensory-Friendly Hours as part of our ongoing commitment to making the museum more accessible to all children and families,” said Tara Knuth, CEO of the Lincoln Children’s Museum. “We recognize the importance of creating an environment where everyone can explore, learn, and play at their own pace. This initiative is another meaningful step toward ensuring the museum is an inclusive destination for the entire community.”
Sensory-Friendly Hours will be held weekly on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM throughout the year during a calmer time when the Museum is open to the public. Admission during these times is included with regular museum tickets, and no special reservations are required. The museum encourages visitors to take full advantage of the calm, welcoming atmosphere these hours offer.
In addition to Sensory-Friendly Hours, the Lincoln Children’s Museum continues to provide various resources and accommodations to support families with children who have diverse needs. Through their partnership and certification with KultureCity, the Museum offers sensory tool resources, headphone zones, quiet areas and more to ensure that every visit is a welcoming and positive experience for all.
