JOB DESCRIPTION

Must have availability Wednesday-Monday between 8:30am - 5:30pm.
Additional shifts available on Tuesdays and after hours for Museum private event rentals and programs.


Essential Functions
 

Welcome all patrons entering the building. Sell admission tickets and memberships. Answer visitor questions effectively.

Initiate play confidently with children and their caregivers within exhibits, serving as an enthusiastic, proactive facilitator of hands-on learning and exploration.

Demonstrate a self-starter mindset by independently identifying opportunities to engage families, support exhibit activity, and enhance the visitor experience without waiting for direction.

Assist with birthday parties and private events: set up, clean up, and coordinate party schedules.

Ability to problem-solve and answer basic questions as they arise without having to default to the manager.

Punctual and dependable. Ability to follow instructions from the manager and complete tasks in a timely, efficient manner as assigned.

Available and willing to work evenings, special events, holidays, weekends/breaks, and other shifts as needed, as well as special cleaning days.

Maintain confidentiality with regard to specific volunteer, guest, and co-worker information as it pertains to the museum.

Maintain a positive ongoing relationship with peers.

Support other departments as necessary with set up, clean up, etc.

Contribute to museum standards of upkeep of the museum’s interior environment and exhibits in a way that promotes the power of play.

Be familiar with how all exhibits operate. Notice when guests do not know how to operate exhibits and take the initiative to show them how the exhibits work.

Attend all relevant staff meetings.

Be able to be cross trained in our cafe.


Physical Demands and Environmental Conditions
 

Active work—lifting and/or carrying up to, but not to exceed, 50 pounds occasionally, and up to 20 pounds frequently. Work also includes climbing, crouching, crawling, walking, kneeling, and standing for long periods of time.

Primarily indoor work, with occasional exposure to outdoor elements and/or hazards.


Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Strong interest in working with children, supporting early learning, and creating engaging, play-based experiences.
  • Previous experience in childcare, school programs, youth services, or similar environments preferred.
  • Current student or previous coursework in Child Development, Early Childhood Education, Education, or a closely related field highly encouraged.
  • Demonstrated ability to initiate play, lead activities, and foster positive, developmentally appropriate interactions with children of various ages.
  • Ability to create welcoming, enriching environments that encourage curiosity, hands-on learning, and exploration.
  • Must have or be able to obtain a Food Handler’s Permit.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $15.00 per hour
